We all may be players on the world stage, still the question remains why we reveal the emotional responses to the happenings depicted in the fiction, whether in print or visual demonstration, like in real life? Much like dreams our imaginations become presented to us on the mental screen as though we had been watching movies or television. And just as in dreams the real world gets supplanted by the virtual universe although we’re fully awake. That world still has perfect resemblance to the real one and what happening in it appears real as a result of something changing in our cognition faculty. But the mechanism which triggers our psychological responses remains unchanged and consequently we react to the fiction in precisely the exact same manner as in actual life.
Here we have some similarity with the digital reality of the contemporary computer technologies, which can be an artificial environment created by software. It is introduced to the viewer in such a way that the individual temporarily suspends own belief pattern and takes it as a true environment. In ways it isn’t different from the phenomenon of being hauled to the imagined world of fiction, except that the computer performing the task is in mind and we have no clue as to what is the software and who is the developer.
This brings us to the reason for psychological reaction itself. In regard to fiction the most common emotions are likes and dislikes that may become their more powerful forms of hate and love. In real life we love or hate someone because of a few attachment through kinship, friendship, or even through indirect knowledge of the individual. One cannot love or hate a person one does not know in any way. Attachment can also be on other living beings, material things, and even to fanciful things. We love or hate a story or even a notion. For an ordinary person it’s not possible to live unattached to items on the planet. If a person is able to eliminate attachment, one unites the rank of educated souls who are indeed rare. We carry our capacity and desire for attachment even into the imaginary world of fiction. We see the characters we come to know as the story progresses, form our preferences, and respond in the same manner as in real life except that we cannot interact together physically. But we do interact with them in our heads and hearts from where the emotions come. Ideally, just as with so many other aspects regarding home, you will need to pay more attention to some things than others.
But that can vary a bit, and it really just will depend on how you want to use the information. But we are not finished, yet, and there is always much more to be uncovered. Still have more big pieces of the total picture to offer to you, though. What you are about to read will significantly enhance your knowledge, and we will go even past that point, too.
The simple fact is that at a specific sense is fiction. Like a story it’s a beginning, an end, and also lot of stuff in between. We don’t know who writes this fiction nor will ever understand. So we’ve got an inborn affinity with fiction and cannot completely detach ourselves from it. And perhaps that is why, while studying or seeing fiction we get lost in the wonderland of creativity, but for that brief period we operate exactly in the exact same way as we would in the actual world of our perception. In that sense fiction is just invented reality.
Theme is why fiction matters, since it’s the quality that provides the story a universal appeal. Some state motif is exactly what the story is all about, but that’s too ephemeral a definition, which might get confused with the idea or the plot.
Theme enriches and inspires the reader while saying something profound about the human condition. Theme is the abstract concept behind the story forming the story’s heart and soul which the exposition, dialogue, and action reflect every opportunity they get.
Theme is not the characters or the storyline or the first idea that started the narrative. By way of example, a writer could begin with the idea of exploring family connections between women, but as his story progresses, his theme may shape up as forgiveness and understanding between different generations of guys. There are some topics on which it is very hard to write any kind of story.
Theme is indicated, sometimes without the author’s understanding of it at the beginning; nonetheless, more experienced writers usually work on their theme harder than any other part of the story as soon as they grab on to what it is they are writing about.
In non-fiction, the author is suggested to hone in to his theme and start referring to it right at the first paragraph. In fiction, on the other hand, the motif usually flowers through the writing as the story progresses.
